Seven back in the surf with SLSA
Australia’s elite surf sports stars are heading back to the beach for a new summer of action-packed competition and this year fans can catch all the action on the Seven Network.
Seven and Surf Life Saving Australia have signed a new broadcast partnership that will see Seven covering the iconic nib Coolangatta Gold, Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series and the UBD Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.
Surf Life Saving Australia’s CEO, Brett Williamson OAM, said the partnership with Channel 7 provides broadcast certainty for the surf lifesaving movement and its corporate partners and will assist in the ongoing repositioning of the sport.
“We are one of the most iconic summer sports on the calendar and we are confident that there is a strong audience out there for the action-packed spectacle of Ironman, Ironwoman, ski and board racing along with all the other uniquely Australian surf sports,” he said.
“Channel 7’s observational documentary ‘Surf Patrol’ has enjoyed tremendous success on the network over the past two years and it makes sense for us to have all of our television properties on the one network to maximise our leveraging opportunities,” he said.
The 2008-09 surf sports competition officially kicks off in less than three weeks with the
nib Coolangatta Gold. Event dates are:
nib Coolangatta Gold:
19 October 2008, Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast)
Telecast: 2 November, 12noon – 2.00pm (check guides for more details)
Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman and Ironwoman Series:
Rounds 1 and 2 – 17-18 January 2008, Kurrawa Beach (Gold Coast)
Rounds 3 and 4 – 7-8 February 2008, Coolum Beach (Sunshine Beach)
Final, 21 March 2008, Coogee Beach (Sydney)
UBD Australian Surf Life Saving Championships:

Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, said: “We’re delighted to be a partner with Surf Life Saving Australia and to secure these surf lifesaving events that are so much a part of the fabric of Australian life. We’re looking forward to a tremendous season.”
SLSA has engaged Hunter-based Castle Media as its production company for the broadcasts.
Some comments on our website.
Received September 18th from Michelle in California
“Hi, while in Sydney this past July I purchased a pair of BTF gray rugby trackpants. I want to purchase another pair but cannot find them on your website. Can you help?
BTF: Our trackpants sold out very quickly this winter and we won’t be getting anymore in until next winter so check out our website in February 2009 to see what’s in store.
Received September 18th from Guillermo in Surfers Paradise
“Hi there, congratulations on your new website just a quick suggestion on what I think is crucial on the looks of your store… the banners/flags of the lifesavers… red and yellow at the front of the store…it would really give it a good appeal about the merchandise, I love it, but I must say, I am always disappointed not to find my size…it’s way too small for males most of the stuff you got there”.
BTF: Thank you for your feedback. Our merchandising department happens to be in the process of searching for some old flags to hang inside our stores so your timing is impeccable.
With regards to sizing, we’ve recently had quite a few enquiries for men’s XXXL and will be taking a serious look at it for future ranges.

MYER takes on Lifesaving Brand for Men
Surf Lifesaving retailer Between the Flags, has created a new lifestyle range for men under the label BTF Men’s which has caught MYER’s attention.

A sneak peak at the new
BTF Men's Range
Borne out of BTF’s design room headed by art director and Bondi Surf Club “clubbie” Jon McGuigan, the range should appeal to the majority of Aussie males as its style is relaxed and easy. Most of the fabrics have been pre-washed and distressed to reduce shrinkage and fading making the range soft and comfortable.
Getting a foot in Myer’s door with an un-tried brand was a feat in itself but the range has successfully won its way into 3 MYER stores this summer: Pacific Fair – Gold Coast, Westfield Miranda – Sydney and Karrinyup Centre – Perth. Orders have been placed and the range will arrive in stores late September.
MYER menswear buyer Nathan Gibson explains “when we first saw the collection, our first impression was we’ve stumbled on a range that’s going to be a great all-rounder and should appeal to most men aged 25 -50.”
“It’s very easy-to-wear-casual with a great selection of top and bottom weights that work really well together. Best of all, a percentage of BTF sales will go to Surf Life Saving Australia which is just terrific” he added.
New Stores
The Corso, Manly (August)
Hillary’s Boat Harbour, Perth (early 2009).
BTF Men’s
Between the Flags is proud to announce the launch of its NEW BTF menswear collection for summer 08/09. The range will be available in selected MYER department stores and all BTF stores from late September.
BTF Resort
BTFs Resort range for women is due in-store in September bringing a relaxed mix of tops an bottoms in bright, bold, easy-to-care fabrics to suit most shapes and sizes.
Beach Rugby Range
BTF will launch a range of beach rugby wear for men and boys available from July.
Australians always find an excuse to get down to the beach even when it’s freezing outside and beach rugby is becoming a popular winter sport.
Check out our beach rugby tees, jerseys, hoodies, shorts and sweat pants from Bondi, Noosa, Manly, Surfers Paradise and Perth.
Meet the stars of Bondi Rescue
Members of Channel 10’s Logie winning show Bondi Rescue will be making special appearances in both our Campbell Parade and Bondi Pavilion stores Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July July between 2 – 4pm for the Bondi “Bohemia” Winter Festival.
“Hoppo” and “Kerbox” will be signing autographs and answering any questions you might have about beach safety.
We’ll also have our latest range of Bondi Rescue tees, hoodies, towels and caps in-store and will be giving away an autographed photograph of the Bondi Lifeguards with every purchase.
